Portland, OR: VW Vanagon 87 Syncro Westfalia (Vista Ca) $32500

87 Syncro Westfalia Price: $32500

I purchased this van 12 months ago with the view of a surfing trip to Mexico, it is a very clean and original van which was well looked after by previous and original owner, I am now currently at a end to this trip and will be back in San Diego soon so the van is now for sale. I spent 3 months going through everything in this van to ensure a trouble free trip, installing a 2.5 Subaru engine.
I had the tacho modified and speedo calbrated to allow the Subaru engine, at this time i reset the odometer to 000000 as it now has new engine and transmission, but it had 183,000 at purchase and at time of sale should only have about 5,000 from rebuild.
The work done includes
*2.5 Subaru conversion, All Small Car conversion parts including wiring harness, aluminium oil pan, aluminium bell housing
*2.5 Subaru engine out of 97 Outback with 128,000 miles, compression tested good, had heads completely rebuilt before installation, new water pump, belts, belt tensioner, rollers, rocker cover gaskets, cam seals, clutch (machined Subaru flywheel to accept VW Clutch plate and Subaru pressure plate), didnt spare on the $'s to ensure this is a strong and bullet proof engine, many years of trouble free motoring.

*Rebuilt transmission with new rear diff locker and decoupler installed
*Balanced drive shaft
*New front axels (ripped cv boots)
*HID dual hi/lo headlights with 110W Halogen Hi beam
*LED Lights fitted inside (extra lights fitted for camping)
*80A/Hr deep cycle second battery with solar panel charging system (will fitt larger panel, same size as upper storage area on roof)
*Viper alarm with remote keyless entry (all doors except rear, will get rear door working when get the different latch already wired)
*Tinted windows including windscreen (darkest legal tint applied and heat reflective tint on windscreen)
*Electric windows and mirrors
*Hidden fuel pump isolation switch (anti theft)
*Air horns
*New 3 window tent fitted
*Thurle roofracks (surfboards)
*Eurovan awning from Go Westy
*Sirius XM Radio
*12V trucker fridge (will actually make ice cubes)
*Pioneer stereo with USB and 3 way speakers in doors and 2 way in rear storage cabinet

As you have read I have spared no expense in sorting this van out, all tryes are 90% tread (spare is new but steel rim), interior is very clean with no damage anywhere, timber floor fitted in rear area and all carpet is excellent, all of the work was professionally done and the van has performed flawless in Mexico, from driving down the beach, offroad in desert to the 1,000 mile drive down the highway, its been a pleasure to drive. The rear heater is removed for extra storage under seat, comes with numerous spares, tools and camping equipment, as seen in photos.
From my use there are only minor things left to finish, i will complete these before selling therefore guaranteeing flawless motoring to new owner
*Rear door keyless entry
*Duct air cleaner into Syncro snorkle
*Fitt larger solar panel
*Original tan door trim
*Fitt 2x6V deep cycle batteries under fridge for extra storage, but maybe larger solar panel will surfice.

Orange County: 1981 Volkswagon Westfalia (Dana Point) $7500

1981 Volkswagon Westfalia for sale. I've owned this van for 2 years and its time for me to move to a different camper. The van runs perfect, shifts perfect, and mechanically has NO problems. The interior is in excellent condition and all appliances (Fridge, stove, and sink) work as good as new. There is a slight bit of rust on the driver side of the van (see photo) but that is the only notable problem. The van just passed smog on 12/12/12 with no problems. The van has an upgraded stereo with CD/AUX input with 4 speakers, two in the front and two in the rear. I have a ton of spare items for this van including new window seals (the current ones are still good, just wanted to eliminate the trim pieces), 6 original hub caps, two service manuals, the original front window covering, original sliding door curtain, original rear hatch screen, spare window crank, OEM touch-up paint, and a number of misc. plastic clips. I love this van, but I camp mostly in remote Baja on the beach and the van just isn't suited for that, it is time for her to go to a new home. The van has been garaged during its entire stay at my house and the previous owner from Temecula, who owned the van for 10 years, did the same, More pictures available upon request.

New Bilstein Shocks
New 3 Window Tent
New LED kitchen light (still have original)
New Hook-ups (see picture, have originals)
Newer Tires
Newer Battery

San Diego: 1990 Vanagon Syncro Westfalia GL (North Park) $27000

I am starting a business and am doing that which I said I would NEVER do. I am selling the Syncro. I have put a lot of blood and sweat (and tears) into this van. When I got it there were about 180K miles on the clock. Previous Owner said "the speedo is broken". I realized after a few tanks of gas that it was a 2WD speedo and replaced with a Syncro speedo from GW. The 2WD speedo reads 2x what the syncro one does so mileage is unknown. Now reads 30K miles. I have records that go back many years. There are no gaps in mileage so I assume that the motor that was put in at 140K indicated has 50K on it but I am not sure.

Van is 4 speed manual with a granny gear.

By that math the transmission was rebuilt when the motor went in. 50K ago. I put in fresh Redline MT90 about 10K ago front and rear.

That said I have a freshly rebuilt 2.1L WBX with new clutch and plate waiting to be installed because I wanted this thing to be bullet proof. I am holding off in case the new owner wants to go with an alternate motor. Current motor runs well. I'll sell the fresh motor if you don' t want it. The price of the van will be adjusted accordingly.

Van needs the usual suspension stuff- some bushings, etc. A lot of the running gear is pretty new as replaced by PO.
Has a leaky steering rack.
PO probably had a sideswipe collision because there is a lot of Bondo in the right side panels. The rear hatch is getting a little rusty near the window and some of the seams have the usual rust. According to PO, the PPO took it to Baja a lot.

Van is the GL and has the following:

Rear Locker
2" OME lift
Brand new Van Cafe slip yoke prop shaft (uninstalled- no snow here in SD)
16" CLK wheels with 215/70/16 Grabber AT tires with 25K miles
Full size matching spare on pathfinder swinging rack
North Westy big brake kit
New tent canvas
GW rain fly
Fridge removed and converted to cabinet
Propane tank removed and converted to 1lb bottles (still have tank)
Projekt Zwo lights and grille
Hella lights on bumper
Van Cafe big bumpers
New water pump and high flow oil pump (5K miles)
80% of exhaust is new- smogs fine
Kenwood KVT-514 in dash slide out DVD with iPod adapter
Larger aftermarket sunroof vent
ProSport 20 battery charger
Rear shoulder belts that came with the van waiting to be installed.
Power mirrors with defrost
Power locks

Orange County: 1982 VW Vanagon Campmobile Westfalia (Laguna Beach) $12200

Up for sale is my 1982 Vanagaon Campmobile (Westy). Price is $12,200 Has a rare 1.6L diesel engine, 4 speed manual transmissions. Original dealer sticker says 29 mile per gallon. Original miles on the vehicle: 128k. Camper was originally purchased at Roger Miller VW in Riverside, CA. for an original sticker price of $16,215.00. It spent all of its life in Laguna Beach, CA. where the average rainfall is 20 inches a year so accumulated hardly any rust.

I am the 3rd owner and have the original dealer window sticker listing all the original features, factory workshop manual and owners manuals The Westy starts up right away; engine runs well, no leaks whatsoever. Don't expect to race with this Westy, it can be slow, particularly up hills, but fine on flat roads. The upper speed limit on flat with no wind 70 mph. Keeps you safe from speeding tickets.

These diesels have a deserved reputation for being reliable and low maintenance with good fuel mileage. If you're adventurous this one can be converted to run on vegetable oil or diesel. You can secure VGO at your local restaurant and filter it at home without much hassle. I have an 85 Mercedes 300D running VGO for over two years without a problem. Kits are available to convert this Westy into a single tank or dual tank system to run diesel, biodiesel or VGO. I was going to have this done, had my mechanic start the work by taking off the fuel tank but decided not to convert it. Fuel tank was thoroughly cleaned while off the vehicle. Vehicle was never in an accident. When purchased by me May 2011 had been in non operational status for 7 years sitting in Mark's driveway.

For the past year this vehicle has been expertly restored to its near original condition. The following work was done:

Engine was replaced with 1984 1.6 diesel which came from a Vanagon (not camper) which had been in an accident. Engine purchased from Mesa West in Costa Mesa which has been in business for 38 years servicing VW vehicles. Please, serious buyers only...do not contact me if you want me to finance the purchase or don't have the funds, no trades accepted.

1.Engine head was removed and reground and all new gaskets installed. 2. Rebuilt injector installed purchased from www.hansdieselparts.com/
3.Rebuilt Alternator, Starter, reground clutch plate 4.New belts all around 5.New radiator hoses where needed. 6. Radiator boiled out by Harbor Radiator, Costa Mesa, CA
7.New thermostat, and 2 new fan switches installed 8.New Bosch Battery 9.New Accelerator Cable 10.New fuel line 11, New oil pressure sensor
12.New Fuel Tank 13. New Water Pump 14.New Wet Okole Driver and Passenger seat covers www.wetokole.com/ 15. New KYB shocks
16.Alloy wheels with BFG tires (80% tread left) new chrome bolts 17.Upper and lower ball joints, radius rod bushings, upper control arm bushings, tie rod bushings and tie rod ends and sway bar bushings. 18.(Essentially all suspension components were replaced with new parts from Bus Depot, ETY parts and Han Diesel Parts.)
19.New paint by Maaco 1 coat color, one clear coat, paid over 1K with warranty. (There was some rust on corners of windshield, removed windshield, grinded out all rust and welded in 2 new small pieces of steel. Can't tell it ever had rust. These vehicles tend to accumulate moisture on two bottom corners, under the windshield seal. I used silicon sealer underneath the seals so no moisture could accumulate in the future. Also fixed a little body damage caused by a branch falling on the side of the vehicle near rear tire. I'll point that area out in a picture.

20.New shifter bushing, on 4 speed manual transmission, 21.All fluids replaced, including oil, gear oil for transmission, brake fluid, antifreeze, etc. 22.New 3 window pop top from Bus Depot
23.New mud flaps from Bus Depot (S. African style so slightly different from OEM) 24.New driver side mirror 25.New sink faucet fixture
26. New LP gas intake valve and new regulator (gas stove works great) 27.Original refrigerator works OK (haven't tried it using LP gas but no doubt the fridge could use some maintenance to get it to original condition) 28. Replaced 2 small window screens for side windows. 29.Interior has received new panel materials where needed including headliner (see pics)
30. Seats in good condition, new seat covers. Seats swivel around. 31.New rear seals for differentials and transmission 32.New Sony stereo with CD player and remote, (XM/Sirius satellite ready) 4 speakers 33.All curtains removed and washed, all in good condition. 34.All upholstery thoroughly cleaned, upper bunk pad covers removed and washed. 35.New fabric for sliding door, rear hatch door, all new interior fabric installed including front header. 36.New Weather Tech front floor mats 37.New driver's side seat belt and retractor 38.New Rear Hatch pneumatic lifts 39. Carpets thoroughly cleaned 40.Clam shell for spare removed cleaned and repainted 41.New plastic chrome molding on all windows (front doesn't use one as that seal was replaced with one that doesn't require molding) 42.Bumpers were removed; dents pounded out and painted using heavy duty black outdoor metal paint. (Original bumpers were chrome but were rusted.)
43. Replaced bumper ends and all clips holding bumper pads. 44.Fiberglass pop top and luggage carrier was removed, thoroughly cleaned, sanded and painted using best primer (two coats) followed by Marine paint (2 coats). 45.Pop Top inside frame cleaned while off vehicle. 46.New rubber seals installed on both camper top and luggage rack.
47.New radio antenna installed 48.New window washers blades 49.New chrome colored plastic window trim all windows except windshield
50.New thermostat and auxiliary fan switches 51.New rear braked shoes and wheel cylinders

Everything works as described. Two items that don't work are the interior front light when opened from driver's side, works when opened from passenger side. Also cover for water tank intake on outside is missing. Heater works well too. I would not hesitate to drive this Westy anywhere. No rust, always in Southern California for the last 30 years.
